Thor Broadcast NMS-CMOD Compact Encoder Modulator Product Line

Thor has released a new line of encoder modulators in a compact form factor previously known as VQAM.  The New CMOD systems are combined encoder modulator systems with features previously found only on our larger rack mount chassis.  The CMOD system incorporates Thor's network management system to allow configuration control and monitoring from any system with a web browser and network connectivity to the device.  CMOD adds flexibility with input video format by adding component and composite video on a DB-15 breakout cable in addition to the standard format HDMI connector.  A USB interface is also provided to allow an external storage device to either record programing encoded from the video inputs or to playout TS files that have been saved from the encoder or copied from a computer source.  This makes the CMOD platform ideal for digital signage or information channels, as USB content can be continually looped from a USB storage device.

QAM: Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (ITU-T J.83)

Thor encoder modulators are available for all major world television systems.  Quadrant Amplitude Modulation (QAM) is commonly used in cable TV systems due to its high bandwidth abilities.  The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) defines the standards for QAM under the J.83 standard.  Thor QAM-IP chassis support all three primary J.83 QAM standards; ITU-T J.83A, J.83B, and J.83C.  Any QAM-IP chassis can be set to output RF carriers under either of these three standards without the need to change firmware.  J.83A and J.83C are primarily used in European systems and are commonly known as DVB-C.  US cable TV systems are based on J.83B, which in the United States is commonly referred to simply as "QAM".  QAM-IP chassis are available from Thor with many different types of video input and encoder cards.  These encoder modules are independent of the modulator chassis system.

Advanced USB Storage DVR and Network Managment Systems

The all new H-NMS-CMOD system from Thor Broadcast adds two new important features to the compact encoder modulator product line.  With the incorporation of Thor's Network Management System this product line has been updated from VQAM to CMOD.  All system configuration settings and parameters can now be managed remotely through a web browser on a device connected through the local area network.  This allows the system to be monitored for faults, and for modulation and encoding settings to be adjusted remotely.  Also included is a local USB storage interface for a USB mass storage device such as a hard drive or flash disk.  The USB storage device, once mounted as a local file system, can be used for DVR functionallity to record the encoded transport stream (ts) from the video input.  These .ts files can later be played back as channel output on loop for continuous content.  In addition, Thor's TS converter software can be used to generate playable files from any video file on a computer.  This makes the CMOD platform ideal for local signage and digital displays.
