Project Overview

WorldMark Angels Camp, a Wyndham Vacation Resort located in California, completed a comprehensive television distribution upgrade utilizing Thor Fiber RF over Fiber (RFoG) technology.

The project was designed to modernize the property's MATV infrastructure while leveraging the resort's existing singlemode fiber network. The deployment centralized television services, improved signal quality, simplified maintenance, and provided a scalable foundation for future hospitality technology upgrades.

The resort's buildings were divided into two independent RF distribution trunks, improving system organization, scalability, and operational reliability.

The Challenge

Large hospitality properties often face several television distribution challenges. WorldMark Angels Camp required a solution capable of delivering television programming, guest services, and interactive television functionality across a multi-building campus while utilizing the property's existing fiber infrastructure.

Long-Distance Signal Transport

Transporting television signals reliably between multiple resort buildings requires a distribution platform that performs over long distances.

Coaxial Signal Degradation

Traditional coaxial distribution networks can introduce loss, noise, and service inconsistency across larger properties.

Limited Expansion Capability

Hospitality properties need infrastructure that supports future channels, services, and building-level upgrades without major redesign.

Complex Maintenance

Distributed television equipment across multiple locations can make maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational management more difficult.

Return-Path Requirements

Interactive television and guest services platforms often require reliable return-path support in addition to forward RF transport.

Platform Integration

The system had to integrate with existing SONIFI FTG/ITV and DirecTV hospitality distribution infrastructure.

The Solution: Thor Fiber RF over Glass (RFoG)

The upgraded architecture utilizes Thor Fiber RF over Fiber technology to transport CATV and MATV RF signals over dedicated singlemode fiber.

At the MATV Headend, RF signals are converted into optical signals and distributed throughout the property via optical splitters and OS2 fiber infrastructure. At each building, a Thor Fiber Mini Fiber Node converts the optical signal back into RF for local television distribution.

The design includes both forward RF transport and return path RF monitoring and interactive services. This architecture supports SONIFI Interactive Television services while maintaining exceptional RF signal quality throughout the resort.

The primary television headend was installed in the Building L IDF. Centralizing the equipment significantly reduces maintenance complexity while simplifying troubleshooting and future upgrades.
