H-SPARTAN-4 4CH HDMI/CVBS/USB Video Audio encoder Streamer to IPTV; UDP, RTP, RTSP, HLS, HTTP, RTMP

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IPTV encoders are a valuable piece of infrastructure for transmitting multiple channels or programs over a LAN easily, generally in H264. However, it is essential to use a decoding apparatus like an IP-STB that can receive those programs via IP addresses in H264 and output the signal via HDMI to a television or screen.

Our encoders can be used with our IP STBs (set-top boxes) - IP to HDMI decoders.

Question and Answers

Question:

We are working on a project for one of our IPTV customers and believe that Thor encoders may be appropriate for this application.

Could you please suggest 4-channel rackmount encoders, HDMI to Ethernet/CAT6 for an IPTV application? The customer is looking for cost-effective solutions, so please let us know if there is more than one option

Answer:

If you need a solid 4 HDMI input unit for encoding to H264
https://thorbroadcast.com/product/4-8-16-24-hdmi-iptv-streaming-8230.html/213

If you need 4 HDMI to MPEG2 encoding for IPTV
https://thorbroadcast.com/product/4-hdmi-component-hd-to-coax-and-iptv-hd-8230.html/21

We also have another MPEG4 unit with different protocols
https://thorbroadcast.com/product/4-or-8-hdmi-inputs-h264-network-encoder-udp-unicast-multicast-rtsp-8230-2.html/36

So essentially we have several options, but in order to deduct the best fit for your application it would help if you had more information for us.
However for the solution of HDMI to IP; any of the above encoders will work for you.

Questions:
MPEG2 or H264?
Streaming protocol: UDP RTP RTSP HLS RTMP HTTP????
What kind of audio?
Multicast?
What Resolution?
Is the video going to a LAN or WAN?

Question:

How to send video from the encoder to the Decoder or IRD over the public internet, how to setup encoder, routers and decoders ?

Answer:

In order for you to send the stream over the public internet, please follow these steps:

Encoding Side:

  • Set the Data IP address to the LAN IP range. For example, if your LAN gateway is 192.168.5.1, set the Data IP address to 192.168.5.2.
  • Set your stream to the Destination (RX) Gateway WAN IP address, and any port number, like 2222. Open port 2222 on the Router for 192.168.5.2

RX Side:

  • Please forward port 2222 to the Data IP address of the IRD (NOT NMS). The Data IP address needs to be on the same subnet as the  (RX) LAN Subnet.
  • On the IRD, set the source IP address to the receiving It own Data IP address and port 2222.
  • Please note that IRD Data IP adress need to be on the same subnet as the LAN subnet , for examle if the LAN supbnet is 192.168.1.1, the IRD need to be set to any I P from this subnet 192.168.1.2 to 254

Question:
Who would I need to speak with regarding streaming media solutions that Thor Fiber offers?
The solution would be for approximately 20 TVs that are currently only on WiFi.  It's a church and they use these TVs for their advertisements, ect.

Their current solutions is Sreencloud with an Azule device.  Azule runs windows and the Screencloud App is installed on the Azule. The content is uploaded to screen cloud and pushed to each device.  This is easy for the end user as they don't have to do anything special.  The problem for the client is that it's costing them 15k a month.  They want to reduce this operating cost.

We are looking for options.  We are contemplating a SD-WAN solution where we host an encoder in our DC and a Decoder at their location. The Video Source would be in our DC.  Let's call it and HDMI connection for now.

The parameters would be:

  1. needs to work over WiFi
  2. needs to be super easy for the end user to upload content ect.
  3. needs to be scalable as whatever solution we come up with will be extended to other campuses and additions that are on-going at the church.
  4. CAPEX over OPEX.
  5. Let’s say 4 HDMI sources
    20 TVs
12 second delay should be ok

Answer:
You can use the following solution :
For the 4HDMI , you can use the H-SPARTAN-4 , HLS output
For the 20 TV's you can use 20 pcs H-STB-IP , HLS IP input and HDMI output
HLS streaming protocal will work over WIFi for 20 STB's
Please let me know if that would work for you

Question:

Looking to set up an IPTV server and access for 11 displays. Need some information on how I would go about this. Thanks!

Answer:
The easiest way to do this is with an IPTV encoder and use IP STB's at each screen.
This is a single channel encoder that is very popular, for example.
https://thorbroadcast.com/product/1-sdi-hdmi-cvbs-ip-h-264-encoder-streamer-udp-rtp-8230-2.html
Rudimentary picture of what it would look like, encoder to a switch then to IP STB's on your network.

Those compact STB's can be found here:
https://thorbroadcast.com/product/compact-ip-decoder-set-top-box.html
Keep in mind you'll need 11, or however many screens you have. Then expansion is very simple, just adding one to the network each time a new display is added.

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like a formal quote on anything.
I can be reached at 1800-521-8467 ext 1 if you'd like to discuss further as well.

Question:
i’m glad to hear the good news and to know that the S SAMSUNG SBB-SSN Player r is 100% compatible.
I would also like to ask if there is a way to calculate the maximum number of TVs that can receive content simultaneously through the IPTV outputs, taking into account the following:
  • The H-4ADH-QAM-IPLL modulator has a 100 Mb/s Ethernet port.
  • The H-Spartan-4 modulator has a 1 Gb/s Ethernet port.
We could use the bitrate of the content transmission to estimate the number of TVs that can be supported.
Additionally, I will take advantage of the benefits of the IGMP protocol and multicast transmission to minimize network bandwidth usage, thus ensuring a more efficient content distribution.

Answer:

Great question: yes, using UDP multicast with IGMP enabled on your LAN, you can distribute video content to an unlimited number of TVs simultaneously without increasing the overall network bandwidth usage.

Here’s a simple explanation of how multicast works:

  • In multicast, the modulator sends one copy of each video stream to the network.

  • IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol) allows TVs (or set-top boxes) to join or leave specific multicast groups (each stream has its own multicast IP).

  • Your switch/router forwards the stream only to the ports/devices that requested it, which keeps the network efficient.

  • So, whether 1 TV or 100's or 1000's TVs are watching the same stream, the modulator sends it just once, no extra bandwidth used.

Regarding your specific equipment:

  • The H-4ADH-QAM-IPLL has a 100 Mbps port, so you could safely transmit 4 IPTV streams  18 Mbps per stream

  • The H-Spartan-4, with its 1 Gbps port, can easily handle  high-bitrate streams without issu
