Question and Answers

Question:

I'm searching a low cost solution to stream one channel video/audio from SD or HDMI source to another destination (over internet - without VPN) - resolution: 1080p or 1080i

do you have a package of encoder ----> decoder for this?

the encoder will be on network 1  and the decoder will be on network 2 (in another location)

-------2

I have some questions:

  1. What is the differences between those 2 DECODERS:
    1. IP STB - (IP to HDMI)  -$169
    2. H-IRD-V3-IP-  SDI/HDMI/CVBS/ASI - $1995
  2. Can we use HDMI to SDI converter for the small decoder IP STB?
  3. what is the minimum internet requirement (in term of upload/download speed) on the decoder side and on the encoder side?
  4. Should we open/create a port forwarding rule on the encoder or the decoder side?

Please, be aware we want the stream to work 24/24

Answer:
The reliable video/audio transfer over the public internet might be  challenging; therefore, a specialized streaming protocol is required

This is the least expensive option for 1 Video channel:
Encoder - SDI/HDMI/VBNS  : H-SPARTAN-1

DECODER : You can use the following
IP STB - (IP to HDMI)  -$169
https://thorbroadcast.com/product/compact-ip-decoder-set-top-box.html

OR

H-IRD-V3-IP-  SDI/HDMI/CVBS/ASI - $1995
IP IRD  ( comercial - professional video decoder)
https://thorbroadcast.com/product/ip-to-hd-sd-multi-standard-integrated-receiver-decoder-mpeg2-8230.html
--------------2
  1. The STB is a single IP to HDMI player. Yes, you can use an external HDMI to SDI converter. The stream can be added manually using its own remote control or video file upload from a USB stick.

  2. The H-IRD-V3-IP is a sophisticated broadcast decoder with different outputs including SDI/HDMI, CVBS, and ASI. It has a web interface for setup and monitoring.

  3. The minimum required bandwidth will be 10Mbps.

  4. Yes, the setup will require IP routing and forwarding.

  5. The encoder's Data IP address needs to be on the same LAN subnet as the local router. The encoder's destination address needs to be set to the WAN IP address of the receiving location's router. The port needs to be forwarded to the local IP address of the STB or IRD.

  6. If you require 24/7 streaming, I would recommend going with the IRD (Integrated Receiver Decoder). The STB works similarly to an LVC player. Alternatively, you can test the STB first.

Question:

Scenario:

I have three buildings.  I have an HDMI source video feed in building 1.  It will need to traverse an ethernet over fiber network (couple of ethernet switches) to Building 3 where the signal will need to be displayed on one of the monitors.  In building 2 I have 5 HDMI feeds that will need to traverse an ethernet over fiber network (couple of ethernet switches) also to building 3 to be displayed on monitors.

I was assuming the HDMI feeds will need to be put through a video encoder then that output can be plugged into an ethernet switch and traverse the layer 2 network to building 3 where I would plug the ethernet switch into a decoder where I can plug HDMI cables from the decoder into the TVs to get the output.

Answers:

  1. Are all three buildings on the same LAN and subnet?

Yes, all on the same subnet.

  1. Does your network support IGMP (UDP multicast)?

Yes

  1. How important is latency for your application? Is a delay of approximately 1.5 seconds acceptable?

Not critical but lower the latency the better.

Answer:
To provide the best recommendation, I have a few questions regarding your network:

1. Are all three buildings on the same LAN and subnet?
2. Does your network support IGMP (UDP multicast)?
3. How important is latency for your application? Is a delay of approximately 1.5 seconds acceptable?
Solutions:

Building 1:

- 1 unit: Spartan-1 (1-channel HDMI IP Encoder) - HDMI in to UDP multicast out.
https://thorbroadcast.com/product/1-sdi-hdmi-cvbs-ip-h-264-encoder-streamer-udp-rtp-8230-2.html

Building 2 (Two options):

1. A combination of one Spartan-4 (4-channel HDMI encoder) + one Spartan-1 (1-channel IP encoder).
https://thorbroadcast.com/product/4-channel-hdmi-cvbs-network-encoder-streamer-udp-rtp-unicast-multicast-8230-2.html
https://thorbroadcast.com/product/1-sdi-hdmi-cvbs-ip-h-264-encoder-streamer-udp-rtp-8230-2.html

2. One H-HDPerformux-8 (8-channel HDMI encoder).
https://thorbroadcast.com/product/4-8-16-24-hdmi-iptv-streaming-8230.html/214

Building 3:

- 6 units: H-STB-IP  - IP to HDMI Set Top Boxes - IP in to HDMI out.

The Thor Broadcast H-H264IP-E RTSP network encoder is a real time encoding device for IP broadcasting over LAN or Public Internet. The signal source could be from a STB, PC, TV etc via HDMI and it will transport the live program through the Internet/LAN output this LAN broadcast can be received by any phone, tablet, or PC. This Thor network encoder lets you access your IP STB, PC or TV anywhere to watch your stream of content. The device supports HDMI/YPbPr/S-Video/AV/USB input and encodes in MPEG 4 AVC/H.264 format. This H.264 IP signal will output over UDP, RTP/RTSP, HTTP, and HLS.
