IPTV distribution over LAN most of the time utilizes UDP or RTP Multicast protocol because it allows point-to-multipoint video & audio distribution. This protocol allows smart IP broadcast over a LAN, essentially any IP device can receive that encoded MPEG TS stream generated by the IPTV encoders.
As an example, you can receive those streams on Smart TV's equipped with a UDP decoding application or software; on PCs and most popular app is VLC player, but using PC's are very inconvenient when we want to convert those to an HDMI output so you can display them on the TV's or Monitors on the network. In those cases we recommend that you use IPTV STB's which are essentially IP to HDMI converters.
Thor has IPTV to HDMI decoders available :

Question and Answers
Answer:

An HD SD 3 G SDI IP encoder is a device that converts video signals from SDI (Serial Digital Interface) to IP (Internet Protocol) format. This allows the video signal to be transmitted over an IP network, such as the internet or a local area network (LAN).

To use an HD SD 3 G SDI IP encoder commercially on an IPTV network, you would need to connect the device to a video source (such as a camera) using an SDI cable, and then connect the device to the IPTV network using an Ethernet cable. You can then use software or a streaming platform to control the device and transmit the video signal over the IPTV network using multicast distribution.

Multicast distribution is a method of transmitting a single video signal to multiple devices on a network simultaneously. This allows the video to be efficiently distributed to a large number of viewers without using excessive bandwidth. To use multicast distribution on an IPTV network, the IPTV provider must support multicast and the network must be configured to support it.

UDP multicast is a method of sending a single data packet to a group of recipients on a network. It uses the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) to transmit data packets to a group of recipients who have joined a specific multicast group.

To use UDP multicast, the sender sends the data packet to a multicast address, which is a special type of IP address that identifies a group of recipients. When a device receives the packet, it checks the destination address to determine if it is a member of the specified multicast group. If it is, the device processes the packet and delivers the data to the appropriate application. If it is not a member of the multicast group, the device discards the packet.

UDP multicast is useful for applications that need to send data to a large number of recipients simultaneously, such as video streaming or online gaming. It allows for efficient transmission of data by eliminating the need for the sender to send separate packets to each recipient.

Video over IP HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) is a method of transmitting video data over an IP network using the HLS protocol. HLS is a streaming protocol that breaks the video content into small segments and transmits them over the internet using HTTP.

To transmit video over IP HLS, the sender encodes the video content into HLS format and sends it to a server. The server then transmits the video segments to the recipients over the internet.

Recipients can access the video content by using an HLS-compatible player, such as a media player or web browser, and connecting to the server using the video's URL. The player retrieves the video segments from the server and plays them back in sequence, providing a seamless streaming experience.

Video over IP HLS can be used for a variety of applications, such as live streaming and video on demand. It is commonly used for transmitting video over the public internet, as it allows for efficient transmission of data and can be accessed using a wide range of devices and players.

Answer:

UDP multicast is a method of sending data packets to multiple destinations simultaneously on a network. It is used in applications where data needs to be distributed to many recipients without requiring each recipient to establish a separate connection to the sender.

In the context of video over IP LAN distribution, UDP multicast can be used to efficiently transmit video data to multiple viewers on a local area network using the IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol) protocol. IGMP is used by routers to learn which hosts are interested in receiving multicast traffic and to forward multicast traffic only to those hosts that have expressed interest.

To use UDP multicast with IGMP for video over IP LAN distribution, the following steps need to be followed:

  1. The sender (or server) sends the video data to a multicast address, which is a specially reserved IP address for multicast traffic. For example, the multicast address 224.0.0.1 is commonly used for local network multicast traffic.

  2. The receivers (or clients) need to join the multicast group by subscribing to the same multicast address. This is done using the IGMP protocol. The clients send an IGMP join message to the router, indicating that they want to receive traffic for a specific multicast group.

  3. The router receives the IGMP join messages from the clients and forwards the multicast traffic to the interested clients only. This helps to conserve network bandwidth and prevents unnecessary traffic from being sent to hosts that are not interested in receiving it.

  4. The clients receive the multicast traffic and decode it to display the video on their screens.

To use UDP multicast with IGMP for video over IP LAN distribution, you need to ensure that your network supports multicast traffic and that your devices are properly configured to send and receive multicast traffic using the IGMP protocol. This may require some configuration of routers, switches, and firewalls, as well as configuration of the video encoding and decoding software and hardware, the Thor Broacast  H-Spartan-1,H-Spartan-2, H-Spartan-4 encoders family, ouputs UDP multicasts can be easly used for video distybusion over the LAN

Answer:

The TS GOP (Transport Stream Group of Pictures) structure refers to the arrangement of frames within a video stream. The IPPP structure is typically considered better than other structures like IPBB or IPBBP in certain contexts.

In the IPPP structure:

  • I-frame (Intra-coded frame): This frame is a complete image, independent of other frames. It contains all the information needed to display that frame.
  • P-frame (Predictive-coded frame): These frames rely on previous I or P frames to predict their content. They only contain the changes from the previous frame.

The main difference between IPPP and other structures lies in the reliability and efficiency of video transmission:

  1. Quality: IPPP typically offers better quality because each GOP starts with a full I-frame, ensuring that the stream can recover quickly from transmission errors. This is especially important in scenarios where data loss occurs frequently, such as over-the-air broadcasting or unreliable internet connections.

  2. Efficiency: The IPPP structure is more efficient in terms of bandwidth usage compared to structures like IPBB or IPBBP. Since each GOP starts with a full I-frame, there is less reliance on transmitting redundant information, resulting in better compression and reduced data overhead.

  3. Decoding Flexibility: IPPP structures offer more flexibility in random access and editing. Since every GOP begins with an I-frame, it allows for easier seeking and editing at various points in the video stream without relying heavily on surrounding frames.

In summary, the IPPP structure is preferred in situations where reliability, quality, and efficiency are crucial, as it provides better error resiliency, compression efficiency, and decoding flexibility compared to other GOP structures.
