Description

RF over Fiber Tx - 8mW Output 45-870 MHz

RF over Fiber Tx – 8mW Output | 45–870 MHz

1310nm CATV RF optical transmitter for transporting analog and digital television RF signals over single-mode fiber.

Product Overview

The F-RF-1310-TX-8mW is a professional RF over Fiber optical transmitter designed to carry the full 45–870 MHz RF spectrum over a single fiber. It directly converts incoming coaxial RF into optical RF, allowing all channels and services within the band to be transported together with excellent stability and low distortion.

This unit is ideal for systems distributing Analog RF NTSC or PAL, Digital QAM / QAM J.83B, ATSC antenna feeds, ATSC 8VSB, ATSC 3.0, and other RF services operating within the supported range. It provides a simple way to move CATV, off-air antenna, and headend-generated RF signals across long distances where coax alone would introduce excessive loss.

Built around a highly linear 1310nm DFB laser with Automatic Gain Control (AGC), the transmitter is optimized for stable multi-channel transport in both point-to-point and passive optical split networks. For expanded deployments, it can be paired with PLC optical splitters and compatible Thor Fiber RF receivers to serve multiple remote locations from one headend source.

Key Benefits

  • Transports the full RF band over one fiber
  • Supports analog and digital CATV / broadcast RF formats
  • Compatible with RFoG-style optical RF distribution
  • Suitable for direct fiber links or splitter-based multi-location systems
  • Front-panel LCD displays operating status and alarm information
  • Optional redundant power supply for higher reliability

Typical Applications

This 8mW RF transmitter is well suited for hotel TV systems, apartment and MDU CATV distribution, campus antenna feed transport, headend-to-building fiber backbones, sports bars, hospitals, stadiums, and enterprise coax TV upgrades.

It is especially useful when a system needs to deliver RF from a central location to remote buildings while preserving signal quality for existing coax-based televisions, set-top boxes, modulators, or RF amplifiers.

Recommended System Components

For a complete solution, pair this transmitter with Thor Fiber receivers, passive optical splitters, and RF modulators:

  • F-RF-1310-TX-8mW – 8mW RF over Fiber Optical Transmitter
  • F-RF-RX-RM – Rack-Mount CATV RF Fiber Receiver
  • F-PLC Optical Splitters – 1x2, 1x4, 1x8, 1x16, 1x32, 1x64 and more
  • H-THUNDER – HDMI to QAM / ATSC RF Modulator for headend channel generation

Why Use RF Over Fiber?

Fiber allows long-distance RF transport with much lower loss than coax, while keeping legacy CATV and antenna systems active at the remote end.

Example signal flow: HDMI sources enter a Thor modulator, the RF output feeds an RF optical transmitter, the fiber is split using PLC splitters, and multiple optical RF receivers convert the signal back to coax for TVs or local RF amplifiers.

Features

 • 8 mW Optical Power Output from sensor feedback controlled laser system
 • Transports entire 45-1000 MHz band even with full channel linups
 • Create high security "Fiber Breaks" to eliminate coax signal return path
 • Automatic Gain Control (AGC) manages RF level with no adjustment needed
 • Compatible with all Thor RFoG CATV series optical receiver systems

IMPORTANT NOTE*** (it is very important to interface our unit with SC/APC - Angle Polished Connector to avoid any light reflections.

If your fiber is terminated with the  SC, ST, FC /PC flat connector, you need to use an optical jumper from PC type to SC/APC for proper conversion.

Question and Answers

Question:
1) I'm looking for an RF over Glass solution to go about 4000' and I'm not sure what power output I need. 2) Yeah it’ll be a brand new run of single-mode, no breaks, point to point (minus the end point patch panels). There are no plans for other endpoints at this time. I would assume I just pair up the 4mW Tx with the F-RF-RX-RM and I’m good to go

Answer:
1) Is your application just point to point? Was the fiber installed recently? Is it Singlemode? Do you plan on adding more endpoints in the future? For 4000' our Rackmount 4mW optical Transmitter will be more then sufficient just by assuming there are no couplers and your application is a point to point; if that fiber goes through multiple patch panels and there is a lot of optical loss then we would have to calculate. But for a simple Transmitter and Receiver, the 4mW option should suffice with our receiver because the optical sensitivity in our receivers is also very good. Hopefully, that makes sense, If you'd like to discuss further or need a formal quote please let me know. 2) in this case 4mW Transmitter F-RF-TX-4 and R-RF-RX-RM would be sufficient for this distance, this is a link : https://thorbroadcast.com/product/4-mw-catv-rf-over-fiber-tx-45-870-mhz.html https://thorbroadcast.com/product/catv-rf-fiber-receiver-high-rf-power-rack-8230.html

Question:
1) I'm looking to run convert the RF signal from Spectrum Cable in Davenport FL from their curb access to our house which is about 600 feet away. 2) At this point, I’m not 100% sure. The intention is to split out there internet service through their cable modem and take the ethernet feed-thru an ethernet to fiber converter. Their normal TV channels are all that are needed for your RF to Fiber converter. I’m hoping to NOT even need that. hoping to be a “Cord Cutter” and view all TV channels/ video through the internet/TCP service. I’ll have access shed at the point of service near the road. Planning on running fiber from that to the house which is about 600 feet away. 3) The items below will do the trick. The receiver shows it driving 8 TV's. At this point, I can't imagine having that many in the main residence. In fact, I'm hoping to just have a total "cord-cutting" environment. Internet streaming and OTA (over the air) for local stations. I'm looking at your solution as a, just in case. I have not yet decided on whether the fiber will be single or multi-mode. That will be made when I decide on what the converters will need. Right not the basic need is POTs and Ethernet over fiber. It the actual distance is 500ft including the needed end slack a 1000 ft roll cut in two will provide me with 6 pair of fiber strands.

Answer:
1) I have a couple of of questions for you so I can get you the correct information. Does this feed you have to to include the internet as well? Or is this strictly CATV only? Do you have single mode fiber in place? 2) got it, we can help for both Ethernet over fiber and RF over fiber How many TV's are you planning to serve after the fiber optic RF receiver, We have 2 solutions available for a small amount of TV's and a solution for many TV's This is examples : Ethernet over fiber - point to point https://thorbroadcast.com/product/10-100-1000-mbps-fast-and-gigabit-ethernet-over-1-fiber-media-8230.html RF over fiber TX https://thorbroadcast.com/product/4-mw-catv-rf-over-fiber-tx-45-870-mhz.html RX https://thorbroadcast.com/product/catv-rf-fiber-receiver-high-rf-power-rack-8230.html or https://thorbroadcast.com/product/thor-optical-mini-catv-rf-transmitter-45-1000mhz.html https://thorbroadcast.com/product/thor-fiber-optical-mini-ftth-rf-catv-cable-tv-receiver-8230.html 3) The Pots and Ethernet will work on multimode; however RF will not, RF has to be on single-mode fiber, it won't work otherwise. So just keep that in mind when you put in the fiber.
